What's recomended as a replacment to the stock system? I'm looking for somthing like the Emerald setup that's a compleat replacment that I can plug into with a laptop. So is the Emerald M3D rated well (I have heard of it used in transplants so I guess there will be a couple of people on here with it ;)) or not?

    lots of stuff available

DTA MBE OMEX MOTEC, all of them are only as good as the person that maps it

So there isn't much preferance towards one system on here for reliability or easy of setup.

    stealth like DTA

Designadubs have been using MBE and Original VW ECUs

    RobT uses luminition

    Badger bill uses VW

Dave walker obviously uses emerald, really depends what your local trusted rolling road operator likes to use

i Use emerald mate. I find it good. Stealth and Tsr use stealth. When i have a problem i always take it to one of them.

im using DTA, not on a 20vt but nevertheless its still a good piece of kit, DesignaDubs have had very good results out of MBE,

do you really need to go for an aftermarket ecu?

I don't know if I will need one yet but when I start playing round I want to be clued up on the best option should it come to that rather than panic looking posibly with the car off the road.

So can the different garages tune and remap all the different systems?

i.e. although designa dubs specialise in DTA, would they be able to remap an emerald ECU, or a Motec?

golfman are you saying that Stealth remap your emerald?

I suppose i could always ring them [:$] but anyone know offhand?

    Cheers

I run on emerald. No problem installation and easy to tune!

Mine uses Emerald. Surely any good tuner should be able to map any ecu?

In theory yes. But the more familiar they are with the ECU, the more they will be able to get done in your hour of RR time. You don't really want to be paying for them to work out where things are, or the particular quirks of your system...
