roll cage materials

    hi all

    Is there a mininum spec of metal for a rollcage?? i'm gonna get my dads metal worker to fit one in my car but want to know what type of steel/ally to use, cheers

    For race purposes there are two materials used...standard Cold Drawn Steel (CDS) or T45 (aerospace spec)

    If you use T45 you are allowed to use thinner guage material....have a look at an MSA "blue book" but be careful if you want to do competitive events with it because it will need to be certificated if it deviates from a standard design.

    If you just want a standard cage it would probably be cheaper/much less ball ache to buy one ready made.......

    Dont use plastic push fit sink waste tubing, I once saw a pic of a red Maestro where some one had made a rear half cage out of it [8-}]

    I'm not doing it so i dont care if it's a pain, i will only pay the cost of materials!!
