Have you thought about this Gurds? http://www.enne-motorsport.de/Fotos/Neuaufbau Gruppe H Fahrzeug/Neuaufbau Rennauto/index.html I remember him sitting way back in the car. There's also a silver mk1 in the Berg Cup that also sits a long way back (Hayot). The enne motorsport method is probably as far back as you can go and retain the H bar..
Cut the cross braces and Diagonal out and fit the seat where it needs to be Then work round it Sure you'll get it to work with a few cuts and a bend here and there
Thanks Mickey. Nice solution implemented there too. I'm not certain that will solve it for me but will only find out with a bit of measuring. Yea Mushy, Best to cut it out and see. I can always put it back if required. Gurds
As Sirguydo and your initial thoughts ... plus gusset the cage to the shell at the B pillar where the upper seat belt mounts would be. Is your harness still going to locate at the rear top mounts brace ?
Drawing is terrible but think it ties in with your idea plus a couple of over kill braces Helps maybe but the cage diagram makes drawing the bits we want to talk about hard to add on
I think this will have to be the way. Yes the harness will still go there unless something gets in the way. Gurds
my uncle with his rally car has done something very similar to this. Add an X from the main hoop to rear turrets rather than a single diagonal, with side cross bars for extra roll over protection. Also the addition of 2 diagonals from 1/2 way up the b-pillar roll hoop to the centre of the floor welded to a strengthened plated area for side impact resistance. it should allow you to remove the Horizontal bar. Looking at the diagram of your cage, is the b-pillar vertical diagonal not meant to attach to the Drivers side rather than passengers as yours is? or have you done this to give you any more clearance from the seat?? Chaps
Ok the enevitable happened. I chopped out the offending bars. Seat sits further back as expected. Will go from there. Thanks guys. Gurds
What are you doing on facebook Mikelol Check out our Club GTI page. Hit 1000 members at the weekend Anyway, Yes good work Gurds. A bit of extra bracing and it should be fine
You don't need to tell the burglars your on holiday Know what you mean though Friends of mine post they are on holiday before they even get out the street lol Bet your wife has Facebook
Just seen this one posted here. Extra short brace from B to C and then using your cross section from your an roll hoop, angle it backward onto the short pieces
