is it true, if you have a roll cage on a road going car (hence no helmet) you have to have padding on the bits of cage around your head?

i mean legally...but common sence would suggest yes anyway.

If so, who sells them or can you use any old padding?

You can get padding from Rally Design, Safety Devices, Demon Tweeks, Roll centre etc etc...

(basically anywhere that makes or supplies cages)

Not sure on having to have it legally, but i wouldn't fancy a front cage without it tbh. [xx(]

even with the padding you're likely to injure yourself badly if your head connects with it in an accident. still, i'd have it anyway...theres also that really pricey confor foam which is superb.

I've never heard of any such laws but I'll certainly be putting padding on the front of my cage. I don't fancy smashing my skull to bits in a crash.

The padding they use is the stuff you can buy from b&q etc. They use it to wrap round heating pipes etc.
    Just a thought...

It's not the same as pipe lagging

The foam that they are on about is harder.

There is also some stuff which you can use that moulds to the shape of something which connects with it, the same stuff the use in F1 when the driver is in the chair and helmet is resting against it. It moulds then goes back to a normal block of foam when there is no pressure on it.

    :)

I only have a rear cage in my mgb as i decided against a front cage as i wanted to still use it daily now and then, so i wouldn't always have helmet on.....as you would suffer serious injuries if you hit your head on it during a crash without a helmet. Foam on it would help but its still going to hurt big time imho.

I've put some foam on the rear cage just in case ...

yeah, thats the confor foam...seriously good stuff.

wish they had on the ffirst i raced...yuo can t quite see in my pic, but theres a metal bar just to each side of your helmet....i got a headache when i ran off a kerb and me helmet struck it. would not want a side impact in one of those.
