I have a Mk1 and on the bonnent where there is the 'cuts' near the windscreen to let water in i guess there is the original plastic (scuttle cover? I think thats what its called) well now its looking worse for wear and cracking, i have noticed on some cars people have replaced this with an entire sheet of metal or carbon fibre which goes the entire length of the scuttle.

My question is, is this a good idea (ie any draw backs like hiding rust) and can you buy them pre-cut to size and also what does a scuttle actually do? just channel water away from the engine? And if thats it why bother putting the holes in the bonnet in the first place if you want to keep water out?

I hope this makes some sence!? [:s]

    Thanks for any feedback!
    Andy

I think the holes are there to let hot air out.

doesn't the heater matrix channel the air through? on my mk1 the blower sits above the scuttle, so i'm guessing it does.
