My girlfriends car has come to the end of it's life. Her 1.4 Astra Merit has become rotten and the engine is on its way out.

She's only got about 1k to spend and she fancies a Seat Ibiza. Are they any good? and what type of age one could she get for that type of money.

I've tried telling her she needs a Dub, but she won't have it, so at least a Seat is a step in the right direction? Right?

You may be luckyand get yourself a right bargain!

If you can, look for a 1.4 version, as new as possible.

The car, as you know, is pretty similar to the MK4 Polo so you know it's built well.

If you find one and want any help, come on over to SEATCupra.net and we'll do our best :)

we were lookin at ibiza's when lookin for my a car for my girlie.

thing is tho, we were picky (or i was, more like), wanted abs, a sporty interior (so much more comfortable), etc...

the only ibiza that fit the bill was the gti, and with it being her first car insurance wasn't gonna be cheap. so in the end we got her a mint '96 polo 1.6 glx for 2500. an ibiza gti would have been about 500 less.

so to sum up, they are nice, but only the higher models (but then thats true of anything)...the lower ones seemed a bit poor quality to!

Wife has bought a P-reg 97` SEAT Ibiza 1.4 SXE about a month ago, having passed her driving test and it is a little gem, being top of the range before the GTi it has EW/(remote)CL/PAS/FFSR, 4 headrests etc. It drives fine with only 38k on it, insurance is cheap and based on a Polo as said previously so quality is spot on. I would certainly recommend them, as she is very happy with it indeed, and it is cheaper than a Polo too. I don`t think you will get one for 1k, even though I`ve just seen THIS which seems damn cheap, if she can find a bit more she will get a cracker IMHO, definately go for a 1.4 though and NOT the 1.0;)

I agree with that. The Aussie base model is the "CLX" and it's about as a solid as 0.5mm piece of tin...
