Hi all, been absolutely ages since I’ve been on here. I have my sights set on a 77’ mk1 shell which has sat outside for around 10 years. It has a rusty floor and probably rust in a few other places. I want to weld a rotisserie for it so I can rotate and strip it back but I have been advised that it should be braced first to keep it in shape. I have a mk4 v5 which I want to strip to do a conversion into the mk1. Could someone point me to a decent build thread or definitive guide on how to get started on this. I’m confident in getting the rotisserie built but have never done serious structural repairs on a car so it’s going to be a big project for me but one I’m looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into. Any pointers would be appreciated.
I built a spit for my mk2, and then had it on there for a few months. It’s still straight, I did some sill repair, chopped out the boot floor and tunnel. It’s still straight. I wouldn’t be too worried about it needing to be braced
Thanks I need to look into this. I need to build or modify one and add larger tyres so I can roll it out of the garage onto a gravel drive when not being worked on. Do you have pics of yours?
I’ve been watching the Dan Chambers vids. Very informative. I’m on the one where he’s welded in the bracing. Jon I’ll PM you about your rotisserie looks nice an minimalist which is ideal for storage. I’ve got a scissor lift installed in my garage so taking it on and off the rotisserie shouldn’t be an issue. I just need build a cheap platform with big enough wheels so I can wheel the shell in and out onto the gravel when not being worked on.
