Oil usage and sludging is a problem on these motors apparently , how often would you guys suggest servicing them?

A normal interval of 6k to 10k depending on how hard you drive it. Engines on retarded 'longlife' are prone to sludge due to the interval

sadly this car (Hers) , does a 10 min run in and out to work most days . Rarely gets opened up at all. And the guy that normally services it lets it run to whatever the trip computer says.

Check the oil cap. It there is a white build up, you need to start running it for longer more regularly.

10K service interval is fine. Always use the higher quality Longlife oil (even though you are on time and distance).

my wifes car has just been serviced, while it was there they said to change the cam belt for another 330 quid!!! what makes it hard to swallow is that it's a 57 plate and only done 17,500 miles, like you say short trips....(Eos Individual) [xx(]

Wouldn't worry about white in the filler cap, worry about burned on black stuff inside the rocker etc

Best to try and burn it off though, rather than letting it accumulate

White mayo stuff is oil and water vapour (normally) when the vapour isn't burned off.

Actual burned oil inside the cap, cam cover, everywhere, is just burned on oil that hasn't been changed soon enough
