so i replaced my driveshaft outer cv gaitors. i hate the clips provided, and after inspection, my wheels have again been covered in grease. my disks most likely as well as i have no splash guards. im going to just get jubilee clips as i can never get the originals tight enough. there 100mm shafts. so im guessing 100 jubilee clips? stupid q i know Paul
The worm screw part of the clip might foul. I've always used good quality HD black cable ties to good effect.
Last CV boots I changed were on the Isuzu Trooper I had.. I used decent cable ties on that. No loss of grease and they stayed where they should. I used to get the axles/CVs at all sorts of angles with no bother or loss of grease.
I wouldn't use a jubilee clip - way too thick and zip ties need to be very heavy duty the have the right clamping force - only use stainless not plastic. What's wrong with the proper Oetiker clips from VW? You just need a 10 tool from Halfords to clamp them up with.
There's also the steel 'cable ties' although I've never worked out how to tension the ones up which lack the 'non-reverse' feature.
i also have problems with the nearside outer CV losing grease, tried normal plastic cable ties...the 'proper' clamp provided with the CV was too big! not sure whats on at the moment or what clamps ive got on, think metal zip ties are the way forward. have got worm drive clamps for washing mashine ducting 100mm cant remember if i used them though...
I have one splitting and chucking gunk on the inside of a wheel, anyone got any pics of what I need to do? (P.S I have plenty of cable ties, in all different sizes so no worries there )
go down to ecp and get a boot kit... about 7. undo the hub nut, get the car in the air. get the shaft off the diff, get the shaft out the hub, get the cv off the shaft, clean up the cv, re grease and put new boot on reassembly is the reverse of the above innit
