    Hi,
Something I need to check out on the Corrado - when driving along, without applying the brakes i get a squeak noise from the rear. Apply the brakes or lift the handbrake a touch and it goes away.

I'm sure it is pad and disc contact. What's the deal - sticky caliper or mis-adjusted handbrake? The calipers have never been refurbished in my ownership and that is a longer term plan hence leaving but if I can adjust something i probably should. If it's handbrake that would probably be pretty easy and not require jacking up the car? Is there a proper process to follow - i remember a mechanic saying something about this and I've never touched it since.

Any chance you have a section of disc with rust or pad deposits? Or warpage?
    If not....
Check all pads are free where they slide, and all caliper sliders are free too, with proper rubber grease, (NOT copper grease).
I always open the bleed screws and push/screw in the pistons, to check they're ok, and to flush out the old fluid.

Then, pump them up and adjust as per the video, with the handbrake cables loose or disconnected.

Thanks invaluable knowledge. The discs were replaced a few years ago ans tbh I think it has done it for most of that time. Less than 4k. Believe it started after car laid up at bodyshop for 6 mths.

Warpage could be possible though I dont drive it that hard but can see rubbing pad creates excess heat.

I will so as you say and per vid. I need to do this on mk3 and mk2 too.

So if, like me, you go 1 adjustment too far assume you wind back the piston? Do you have to go all the way back or can you just turn it until enough clearance?

OK I sorted that and wound it back a touch :)

Last Q on this stuff- so I've adjusted the caliper, what about the cable itself - anything special to do? I'm waiting on one to be delivered

pretty straight forward, fit them to car and adjust nuts so you have a little slack handbrake off

    As Jon said.
Though they often stretch a little after fitting.

Got my cables but something else does seem right - the springs on the back of the rear caliper are touching the axle, are they not meant to be rotated the other way? Cheers

what type of calipers are those, sometimes 'mk3' are actually from some kind of ford and have extra massive springs on the outside which arent strictly necessary (people often retrofit)

They were off the car - i sent them to big redd for refurbishment. So potentially the right set up but spring is too big? I say it's touching but it's not, there is a couple of mm between spring and axle.

Yeah just got some pics - it's close to the axle but couple mm. I have adjusted for the handbrake but not fitted cables yet. 20221104_102001.jpg 20221104_102010.jpg

basically, take that spring off and work the lever. if it releases perfectly fine on its own no problem, leave them off

Cheers :) ah so that's all it does is spring back once the lever is released? Not that important. Shame big redd didn't put the right ones on.

The mk3 type calipers have an internal spring, but on some models an extra external spring is also added, which seems to be what you have. So if you take that off and the handbrake still releases, you're all good :)
