How easy it to replace the standard 16v roof aerial on a mk2 Golf? Parts of the rubber base have broken off, so I was thnking about replacing the whole lot.

    Anything to watch out for?

Pretty easy, but can be time consuming...

You`ll need to drop the headlining at the rear. The best way, so as not to damage it, would be to remove the c-pillar trims (which will need the rear speaker mounts removed first).

Then you`ll see the nut that secures the aerial. Remove the old aerial, then make sure the area where the nut/washer contacts the roof is clean, and corrosion free (good contact needed).

Fit new aerial, and re-fit headlining and trim pieces. Done!

Thanks for that. Is the aerial connection from the base fairly short?

if its an original aerial, the connector(s) are a very short distance(few cm.)from the base.

treat roof-lining carefully-its only made of cardboard.
