Starting issues, really need some help 91 Mk2 16v golf gti. Standard

    Hi,

    I really need help, I have a 91 Mk2 16v all original on 79k
    The motor cranks over and tries to start but takes ages approx 3 > 4 attempts and cranking for 10 seconds.... I have replace battery and HT leads, Fuel pump is working fine.
    The car starts better when cold but really bad when warm.

    warm start issues could be down to faulty non-return valve in the fuel pump or a leaky fuel accumulator, allowing fuel pressure to drop then the fuel vaporises in the lines.

    but try disconnecting the 5th injector, if that helps you may have leaky injectors and/or faulty 5th injector thermoswitch

    this thread well worth a read too before you start swapping parts :)

    if you look at your fuel pump under the car, on either side of it is the fuel filter and accumulator. the accumulator is the one with 2 fuel lines on the same side. if you can get the wee screw on the end undone and fuel comes out the hole, its knackered and wants replacing.

    the non-return valve is in the fuel pump itself, where the fuel line attaches. this bit unscrews from the pump and can be replaced. this is NLA from VWbut classic parts are sellign them again, can order via vwheritage:

    sometimes its due to internet connection issue, or the web/database server. basically the browser thinks the post didnt send but it did just the site hasnt reloaded proper after it was sent. you go back and try again, and 2 posts come up. if that makes sense :lol:

    you may laugh, but those 2 questions solved most of our IT calls back when I was workin the phones :lol:

    I was the same when it came out I resisted as long as I could. then my wife made me a profile without me knowing and so I was sucked in. I pretty much sit on the facebook vw groups all day now as well as the forum ones lol

    I run an IT company so I only laugh because it's true. I'm surprised the IT crowd didn't put us out of business! lol

    Glad you don't work for me! ;) though I suspect my car would be running perfectly though, good trade-off perhaps? lol
