Exactly this. It fairly common when you do a search. Symptoms are a small leak which all of sudden let's go. The engine emptied in about 25-30 miles!
Yes, many years ago I had the oil pressure light come on while driving. A bit of a worry! Investigation showed a leak from the pressure switch. Temporary solution while waiting for a replacement was to remove the pressure switch, block it's oil hole with a self tapping screw, replace the switch and leave the wire disconnected.
