I fitted Bonrath Poly top mounts to mine, still good as new 17 years later.

I put lemforder g60 top mounts on mine, 20 delivered. Think general consensus is them or mk3 vr6 units, not sure the difference or which is preferred.

Just thinking, sure you need more mk3 bits if fitting the mounts, spring plates maybe? Something to consider if I'm right

I'd just get g60 ones rather than piss around sourcing other bits. They are stronger than standard items. Have them in current 8v gti and previous mk2 with 2.9vr6

Getting a loud and nasty graunching/grinding noise from the drivers side on left turns. I think it is suspension as there is no tyre rub. It’s not the engine catching on the chassis rail as it happens at low speed as well. With the car jacked up the wheel turn smoothly. With the car jacked up turning the wheel causes the suspension strut to turn but not smoothly. Does it both sides but drivers side is worse. Current suspension has been on the car two years.

Does it do it when stationary turning the steering wheel? There is a ball race in the top mount so probably that I would have thought, in my experience don't buy meyle top mounts there crap.

What about wheel bearing/cv joint/brake disc/caliper/tyre ? Many years ago I had a cavalier gsi that had a rubbing /scraping noise from the rear of the car on tight right hand bends, when I investigated I found the inside of the disc had started to delaminate, seen that a couple of times but only on the rear mind you.

It could be cv joint but wheel bearing wouldn’t make this noise I don’t think. It’s not tyre. I hope it is any of those rather than gearbox. I’m just wondering if the LSD is exacerbating whatever the issue is.

My 16v used to make the same terrible noise when turning. It used to chew top mounts like there was no tomorrow. I tried all the different types including G60's. Was driving me mad. Got Mk3 Lemforders a few years back with new spring plates and it never came back. Ever.

Right, attached is a pic of the part numbers for various years (I couldn’t be bothered to type them all out).
image.jpg It appears that the bearing and upper bush are the same for all cars. The top stop too.
However, the spring plates are different. I know there is a difference between years but our “new” springs are Corrado so it may be sensible to get the Corrado ones. But, essentially, the Corrado and golf part numbers are the same.
So my question is, does anyone know the diameter difference between early mk3 and late mk3 springs? This would affects the spring plate. This is what we have.

Looking at some suppliers online, I think it's the 1H0412341 top cap, 110mm outer diameter, its on mk3 based stuff like mk2 caddy, polo saloon/estate, ibiza etc.
I'll check for mk3 etc at weekend and let you know.
There's also a 92mm cap, but looking at the spring it's the larger size.
