    But in my favour!!!

just withdrew a load of cash, got back to work and checked my account online, only to see the amount withrawn (DEB code) and then the same amount put back in (COR code). does this mean I can keep the money?

They may have taken the cash out twice by mistake over the counter, then had to credit the amount once. Its happened to me before, unless they have screwed up in which case, keep the money in the bank as a reserve, or move it to a savings account in case they say anything. Dont spend it though.

theyll probably correct their erroneous error correcting shortly. Mine have done that before - take the money out, think theyve cocked up so put it back straight away, then take it out again to correct the correction!

I bet they'll just take it back out when they "cash up" all the drawers tonight and find a not unsubstantial amount "missing".

They'll find it when they reconcile their books.
Unfortunately they will ammend the entries in your account.
I had a 250 mistake on switch and they corrected it 6 months later.

6 fecking months! I can't keep track for that long, I'll forget about it by then.

ar5e. if I tell them then I'll miss my chance, if I don't, then it could seriously screw up my finanaces when they do come for it if they don't warn me about it first.

You're not missing any chance at all by not telling them. When they do find out (and they will some day) you can be prosecuted for theft. It's happened, and people have gone to prison for just what you propose. Soz [:s]

theft?!?!? it's not my fault, I took cash out of the bank, simple as that. what they do on their system is their fault, not mine.

it's only theft if I withdraw it.

True, but that's regardless of whenever you take it out so all you will ever be allowed to make legally is the interest (& I'm not sure about that either!)

My old housemate put 400 in her bank, the girl behind the counter accidentally keyed in 4000. Friend owned up to the bank a few weeks later, and this is the bit that shocked me, they let her keep it. Said they had completed their books and it would be more hassle for them to reassign the money. The manager told her that 99.9% of the time, they would notice and take it straight back, just happened to be end of the year.

Probably helped that she was really quite ridiculously fit and flirted outrageously with the bank manger.. always worth a try Paul. ;)

did I mention the sum I'm talking about is 2500!! it'd be nice if I get to keep it!
