    Hi guys,

I just got my tech weekly newspaper from MIT and it has an article
about a few students who have tested the affects of 3 products -

    dynamat xtreme
    brown bread
    flashing tape

its very interesting and i will scan the article in so you can read it,
but dynamat xtreme is the best at 20 degrees C in all cases (for
    5mm)

apprently they took a metal sheet and attached the product to it and
then blasted it with sand to create noise and vibration and then
tested the noise from the otherside...very interesting

but if you use enough flashing tape you can achieve the same affect
although it depends on the temperature of the air (7 times more
flashing tape i.e for 1mm of dynamat 7mm of flashing tape)

brown bread is up there with dynamat original which is sweet.

i suppose it really depends on how much dosh you got to spend!!

im gonna go pick up some dynamat now :~)

Personally i find that 3 layers of roof flashing easily acheives the same effect as Dynamat Extreme at 1/4 the cost!

Dynamatt extreme is definitley the answere -- Ive done the majority of mine including roof etc and the stuff is phenominal and really easy to work with --- far superior to the dynamatt original as well.

As for the flashing stuff theres always gonna be people who think they know better

i just spent 200 quid on dynamat extreme and did two doors (on the same side) and can hardly tell the difference on my car, its got no air bubbles and is stuck on pretty frigging well. it does have some holes in for speakers and window winders etc that shouldnt effect it tho :(. I wonder how it will be when i cover the whole car (4 doors and the floor)

apparently the best thing to do is to put dynamat on, then what ever else on top, just make sure dynamat is in contact with metal.

you can use dynaliner (if yer a posh git lol) on top of yer dynamat.

With Dynamatt always apply in warm conditions - not cold. Throughout mine i always heated the dynamatt as well as this makes it easier to work with. The extreme stuff is proper sticky -- A bit like Bubble gum with a layer of foil over it I suppose

TBH I wouldnt use anything under it as this stuff is designed to stick to Metal and as for on top I wouldnt have thought it was neccessary --- I'd just use the product itself

As for doing just 2 doors have you tried tapping the doors - you should be getting a thud instead of a tinny sound! ---- You will notice a greater difference in the car once you have done more like the other doors etc. Mine also had thick black carpet in so this helps to keep noise out of the car as well.

Also I found it better to buy a bulk load all at once as there are greater savings to be had

NO it dosent but the adhesion is better in warmer conditions than if you were trying to do it outside on you driveway at 10pm when its snowing --- try heating the extreme up ans see how much more flexible and tackier it becomes

sweet mate :), i did it outside a couple of days back, t'was 7 degrees!!

anyway my mum has taken my golf out today, so i wont be doing
    anything lol.

i took let her drive it once and now she loves it (and its surprising
when you see the choices of cars she has..see my gallery page)

love the way people pull at traffic lights to see who it is (obviously
n0va's wanting to race) even a 1.6 can beat them lol.

if it doesn't come home tonight, im gonna upgrade to a GTI lol
    (please come home...car lol)

oh yeah word of warning to you guys buying golf mk2's, take the
rear number plate off and check for rust or take the covering off the
back of the tailgate so you can check for rust. Found a tennis ball
sized hole in my golf yesterday, luckily the body shop'e filled it for
me and painted in 1 day flat (45 quid)

right i attach a pic of what i've done with my dynamat, i've put a layer on the inside of the outer skin of the door and on the outside of the inner skin of the door, its a bit of a jigsaw puzzle becuase its so much easier to handle in small bits even if it looks messy, it works soooo much better like this.

oh yeah and straight after that
