328 are 197bhp with the 325 intake mani and tb it goes to about 220, the sports have blistien shocks and springs which cost more than the M3 ones which are Koni iirc! and a lsd so they are a good buy, I just found the cheap ones pretty fecked, also they have the dodgy blocks with nikasil liners which according to all the BMW forums are ticking timebombs, you can call any BMW dealer and they will check if its been changed.

That's what I get in the Audi A4 2.4 - I only drive 15 minutes to work though.

Not a match at all tbh, thought i'd try my luck against one and got my a*s handed to me, thought he was going to mount my car and i don't consider my car slow:lol:

There's an easy check with nikasil engines and a lot of them were changed under warrenty, and yes you have to change the inlet manifold and throttle body to de restict it.

I 'worked' for that team for a very brief period, and actually did some very minor work on that car.
Also, when trying to force something on the vice in the workshop, pulled the tyre rack + tyres off the wall above it

The 328 is supposedly strangled to keep it under a 192PS limit for tax in Germany.

well the 1996 N 328i Auto I'm looking at (my uncle's) is ~950 average and ~1200 good according to www.wisebuyers.co.uk

He's off to Oz in 2 weeks so might get it for 800 or so

    Not keen on 22mpg though...

328s will do 30mpg, its M3's that do around 20mpg.

You can get 3.0 M3's for upwards of 3k.

I got a bargain on one at 2k.

Even at 3k, why bother with a 328?

The auto box ruined the 325i I mentioned earlier in my opinion. I'm guessing as the 325i made 192bhp and the 328i makes 193bhp the mpg will be similar? I got a regular ~300miles to 50 a couple of years back, and it was used to its full ability as often as possible.

Because (and this is a broad generalisation that I think a good few folk would go along with) more 328s are likely to have been driven sensibly, and properly serviced.
I'd expect a 3k M3 to be the baggiest, worn-out POS I'm likely to see.
You may well have got lucky with yours fella (never seen it, in no position to judge), but at that money I'd rather take a chance on a 944 Turbo

Here is my 20p worth. M3 Very fast, great handling car!! Engines are bullet proof. Parts are expensive. The 325, 328 engines again strong handling is good. Manual better compared to auto. Main areas to check suspension & bushes as can be subject to ware and tear, They are heavy, thirsty cars foot down they will drink. If you drive like a granny not too bad. Worth spending a little bit more to get a clean fsh one.

Oh yea I forgot. One worth a look the (318IS) well balanced car handling wise. Only 2L so not fastest but great fun on the B roads and good on fuel. You can get nice spec ones for good money.

2 friends with 328 cabrios (homos:lol:) both mid twentys and both keen drivers, we where talking about mpg the other day and they recon about 30mpg was average, the 22mpg comment someone made earlier was talking about an M3 not a 328 so I was just clearing that up.

    ^^ I agree, M3 all day long

I have a mate who bought a 328i for 1k. You get what you pay for as the bottom end went 4 weeks later [:s]
