The TSR car you're referring to was a black Mk 1 G60 done late '92/early '93, with the 'KFC carton' (urban myth no. 57347291) bonnet scoop/air intake.
Eh up Pabs! Good stuff mate - we went on some epic road trip convoys back then - Scotland, TRL, Castle Combe, Baarlo, etc!
Ayup your big self!! I'll see if I have any other snaps of the old motor. Think I may also have some behind the scenes Peachy VR6 video footage of the Max Power feature at Blackpool with Deutchcar's *ahem* G60 cab. Great road trips, loads cars in convoy tearing up the Queens highway. We'd never even heard of a Gatso!! Anyway, time to hide my rose tinted goggles, put on my slippers and fire up my pipe..... Not!!
hahaha Scotland trip was epic 1997 , me and clements doing 138mph in the Dragon Green Rallye and Binny came flying past @ 140+mph in the MK2 VR6 and we saw the Clibra on its roof on the M6 in near the border. Also at Petrol Station when Jim still had Awesome plates on the VR6mk1 and coppers stopped for a chat and didn't realise Baarlo 1997 130MPH in the MK1VR6 on the Autobahn Pab on the way to D&W !
Yes on the way Back & Dogood in the MK1 overtaken by Paul Macallum MK2VR6 + NOS at 140+ on the M6 Oh yes & Post (Gledhill) compalining he couldn't keep up on the way there as his Tango MK1 16v could only do 125mph ! LMAO
That was fun, though it cost me a new grille and headlamp when the front of my VR6 was peppered by high velocity stones. My VR6 the day before the McTrip!! Epic, the Mk1 was steady as a rock all the way up to top speed. Jim ran the Awesome plates for the whole weekend and luckily we didn't get pulled for that or speeding! Though it wasn't the most discreet colour to evade detection by the Rozzers!!
I went on that trip up to Scotland with you. Silver MK1 16v - I couldn't keep up either!! We used to stay at the Coppid Beach Hotel in Bracknell for GTI International - this photo was taken in the car park.
You've probably guessed that I've been doing a bit of scanning this morning. Some more of the Dutch MK1. I took these on the Club GTI trip to the Baarlo GTI Treffen in Holland 1993. Some of us had a run out to the Nurburgring on that trip. All cooling down - mine is the silver MK1 nearest the camera. It was after this trip that I decided to get coilovers, new wheels and have it resprayed.
Great pics, thank you for scanning those in Seeing those private plates - 0VT 147 and 297 DUB - brings it all back. If anyone wishes to create replicas of these Mk1s, I will stand and look at them all day long!
I've probably got some videograms of these fine journeys somewhere - perhaps not the hardware to play them though! Remember your good self there Nick! Happy Days!
