Ahh yes Gambia red with brown/beige interior. Did one with the 1043cc engine too didnt they for a few years? (perhaps not in the UK market?) I had that engine in a mk2 polo and that was mighty slow so in a golf weighing a fair bit more must have been over half a minute to 60!? Cheers D
So if I offered you a mk4 GTI (115bhp) or a Mk3 1.9DL as the only two cars to choose from... You'd genuinely prefer the Mk3?
Or indeed the 1272cc Gambia Mk2? I had a 1 litre Mk1 (pristine Lhasa car - some will remember). It didn't drive amazingly by any measure, but it had looks.
Customers are often to blame for weird looking cars, the worst thing you can do is give them an options. When I was shopping for an A6, I went to see one that sounded just the ticket, only to find it had a chocolate brown dash, hideous Also have a customer with a beautiful blue passat, with a FULL beige interior The 80s were even worse, look at the Corrado with full red leather
a neighbour if mine has a mk3 deisel thats done 374000 slooow miles and he loves it, he does however admit to knowing feck all about cars.
Golf Mk3 1.9 na diesel 1Y code engines have good crankshafts for stroking (engines that is)! I broke a D reg Scirocco Karmann in chocolate brown with an almost mangnolia leather interior! I found it hard to accept that someone could have walked into a showroom back then and ignored the red golf mk2 gti 16V and said I want that brown scirocco!
Are they any better/different to the TD or TDi cranks? Can this be the only redeeming feature of the car?
Some info here: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1835416&postcount=19 Only a redeeming feature when breaking it!
Ok so whats the worst "Golf GTI" ever made? Mk3 8v or mk4 NA I'd vote mk4 NA - Sloooooooooooooooooow mobile and completely gutless. I thought the mk3 8v was slow until I drove one of these badboys!
nonsense!!! such as what? Pug 306? handled better but shocking build and electrics. Ford escort? heap of a car. Vauxhall Astra? hardly. I think you will find when the mk4 came out, it got its **** well and truly kicked by the focus. And if someone offered me a mk3 1.9D or a mk4 'gti' 2.0 then I would be picking the best of a bad bunch wouldnt I??? its a lose lose. My point is at least the mk3 1.9D did what people bought it for, and was as good/bad as you would expect it to be. the 2.0 mk4 'gti' is a marketing exercise aimed at fleet lists and for that reaons its the golf i dislike the most.
True. After working on one for a friend and almost every bolt i undid snapped. I can see why. Thats why they upped their game on the Mk5 GTI
And thank God they did. The Mk5 GTI is going to be fantastic for this forum when more people start getting their hands on them
I know it's not a Golf but has anyone drive a Fox! I had one as a courtesy car when my MKV GTI was in for a service. What a contrast!
I think they've been selling in South Africa for a few years now. Not the usual european VW standards...
I had a 1.9 Diesel Na Mk3 It was positively rapid compared to the mk3 1.4 4 Speed i had! Now thats slow, 60 Takes about 45 seconds, And the engine is always revving it's nuts off in any gear! So bad I had it cubed, Rather than try and sell it! Cheers Brad
