Anyone got one? Are they worth the extra expense over the 300? The 500 is on offer at Comet for 339.99 including free 2nd car mount bracket and safety camera download.
mates got the 300, which I've used couple times which is great! I nick his car mount kit as well, so don't be blown away with 2'nd mount kit the 'safety camera' update is a up-loadable Points Of Interests file, so if you load 18th sentry pubs, it can beep before you come up to them doesn't the 500 have a blue-tooth link to phone network, to get updates on road works/closed road?? I'm taking the PDA route, just need the GPS receiver, anyone got any info on them I've spent hours trailing though various GPS forums Edited by: Crispy 8V
Hi Crispy, I got a GPS receiver for Christmas - 30 from EBAY. Works a treat on an old XDA running TomTom Navigator 5. Tried it out yesterday on a drive around and can't fault it. The software runs very quickly and adapts quickly to me driving the wrong way whilst the receiver works very well. I ended up getting a Polstar one from a seller called chris_hamill - he's got loads for sale if you search for 'gps receiver xda'. Hope this helps
yer that helps, I'm running a XDA II/Orange SPV M1000, I'm also thinking about a Blue tooth adapter so I can SatNav my way around on foot if needed Worst thing about researching something is people open your eyes up to other options available Edited by: Crispy 8V
From what I read, powering the receiver makes quite a drain on batteries - if you are going to use this without an external power source, I'm not sure how long the batteries would last or how portable the device would be. I've never tried it and I'm certainly not an expert - this was mainly from reading forums as you have mentioned. EDIT: PS. Sorry, Sixpot, for taking the thread off course... Edited by: RichS
I've had an original Tomtom Go (second hand) for a while and can't fault it, don't see the need for any other features unless your on the road 12 hours a day. And I've just sold it on Ebay as I've actually used it four times in 3 months so can't justify keeping it. They are very handy but you need to think whether you actually need one, mine's paid for the suspension for my Scirocco so...
Well I bit the bullet and went and got it from Comet. Seems like a remarkably cool piece of kit, I've set it up to 'talk' with my mobile via bluetooth, and you can even text with it! makes my old Pama plug n go 5 handsfree kit look ancient (none of this voice search malarky) just pull the address book up, find the name and tap it to make a call! Having a bit of trouble uploading the weather, traffic and camera updates at the mo, seems like tomtom's site is a bit tempremental to say the least! Apart from that I'm happy.
Its because of the ammount they have sold this year. 10000's! And think how many are trying to update it over the next week or 2
well done sixpot, if not I should be up & running by the summer! the sat nav, not the car the weather & adjustments for the road closers are all by using your phone to ring up for the info, can you do it though the net, via a USB lead?? Don't buy the celeb voices lee
The celeb voices that I've heard are awful! They are done by 'voice actors' that don't sound anything like the real thing... I have heard that Stephen Fry did a real celeb voice pack but haven't heard it yet.
LOL! The New York Cabbie sounds as bad as Dick Van Dyke did with his mockney accent in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!! Except the cabbie is a Londoner trying to be a Yank!!
