Desparate for sat nav as I am a general navigational mong. I've done some reading up on this and am not too keen to pay &150 plus for a system. I have a nokia6680 so am I right in thinking that I could get a memory card off ebay with tomtom 5 installed, then get a gps reciever? Is this all I need? has anyone used it? Any help appreciated. Thanks
absolutely for experimental/trial purposes only. Thanks chaps. Do you know if it is a specific version of tomtom I need for the phone?
yep mobile, but it only works on certain phones: Imate SP3 Motorola MPX 220 (Only in Benelux, UK, Aus,Swiss) Nokia 6260 , 6600 , 6630 , 6670 , 7610 , 7710 , 9300 , 9500 Orange SPV C500 , SPV E200 Qtek 8010 , 8020 , 8060 , 8080 T-Mobile SDA taken from a install program , not that I have it on a mobile, I have full tom tom 5 PROG running on a windows based device, with a BT GPS reciever
BOOM BOOM!! yeah realised that after I posted. Right I have a 6680 so should be ok, also have a PDA thats in a draw that I've never used. Got to sort it soon, went over an hour the wrong way on the m25 today!!
well, I bought it, for 150, and it's crap. the phone crashes every 20 mins, sometimes even less. sometime the GPS reciver will not get a signal whatsoever and my phone keeps droppoing the bluetooth connection to the GSPR too had a brand new N70 from nokia tooas they thought the first one was faulty. it's no better. works better if you turn the 3d display off, but it still crashes a lot. bloody frustrating.
I'm having similar problems with my N70. I can successfully pair it upto the bluetooth GPS but usually after about a minute, it drops the connection and says 'GPS not found' or such like. I found if you leave it on the GPS status screen (where you get signal details of each satellitte) it'll stay connected. Does this sound similar?
Tomtom Mobile 5 works fine on my 6680. Cheapo Blutetooh GPS receiver from ebay 35, cheapo rsmmc card 25, evaluation download free, suction mount holder 10, velcro for gps receiver 1. Bargain!!!
i'v ran it on my 6600 7610 and 6630 i have the program on my computer can burn it to a disk i'v never had a problem apart from with some new roads not being up to date sometimes i know have a 7610 just for tomtom as i will be using it quite alot soon but have it on my 6630 for backup as well 6630 are cheap on ebay as they can't be unlocked or 6600 are cheap get a 256 minimum sized card for cheap from say mouse2house.com and a gps receiver can be had for under 50 so for less than 100 you can have it up and running
I think you need Route 66 Mobile Britain, I've been using this for over a year and works fine but only does four digit postcode search.
I just shelled out 239 for tom tom one which is the entry model and i love it. I know it's a little expensive but in the 3 times ive used it i flew to my destination. It's quality. P**s easy to use and its got a cool touch screen.
thats why i didnt get the n70, its crap got it on the 6680 never crashed on me and nevers losses the bluetooth.
my mum got one for xmas and i permanently have it attached to my windscreen lol i spend most of my time shouting at the woman but its get me from a to b lol! i know my mate runs a receiver on a palm pilot thing and its forever losing signal and normally when u need it most
I use a SIRF III chipset Solar Bluetooth GPS (80 notes) with tom tom mobile 5 on a 6680, works sweet as but needs a fair amount of free memory to work properly. 1 Gig RSMMC - www.mobymemory.com 24 notes SIRF III GPS - http://www.pdamods.com/products.asp?cat=16 Tom TOm - torrentspy
How do you install TomTom on the N70? Phat, I think it's the version your using, TomTom 5 is ****ed on a N70 but the updates fine...
I have a Road Angel Navigator... I know its a bit pricey but the software and usability of it is awesome... However going through the dartford tunnel once it lost signal and crashed on me... went 5 miles before I realised it had locked up
I had a Motorola A1000 smartphone on contract with Three. It has touch screen so have just got a GPS receiver and acquired TomTom mobile 5.2 and it works a treat. The contract has now run out so now i have a Sat Nav system very cheaply
I had Tom Tom on a PDA with a Blue tooth receiver which kept locking or loosing signal so I sold it and brought a Garmin i3 from Halfrauds for 120 which has been great so far Darren
