I stuck the R888s on the golf tonight and took them out on the private test track to get them worn in a little bit. All went well, except I was surprised by the level of noise from them - audible at 40 mph, and progressively louder with speed - building up to a pretty good howl at the sort of speeds you only do on a private test track... Is this normal, or should I be worried?
Yeah! they sound like an old landrover especially on smoth tarmac!!!! more grip than you think but stay away from standing water Track only IMHO if just from a wear point of view
Cool... pretty much what I thought... I didn't get a chance to really test out the handling, but I could feel there was a lot more there than with the T1-R road tyres.
yep. daily driver on R888's its rather frisky on anything else with 250lbft torque in 970kg rollerscate they dont last as long sure, but she's not an animal at the lights (much)
she does alright. if you saw her and the car you would'nt put the two together. Its quite funny when she gets out of the tinited windowed lupo, slammed on lightweight black 15" rims on R888 tyres.. I had a customer comment as such only last weekend.. funny as
i remember reading bits about the build and spec of that car, does it have any visual clues on the outside that would give away the clout it packs under the bonnet? does she drive that out of choice or is it a case of "thats what she was given"? its funny when a female goes out of their way to have a nutty car... its just not their "sorta thing" etc
I was behind a rollcaged Truiph spitfire yesterday, proper hardcore looking as noisy, when I go to the lights it was a bird in a suit driving it Also, by my work there is a bird with a Ford anglia, rollcaged, black with green flecked roof. Looks awesome. Ill take a pic tomorrow
she loved the mk4 golf we had, so when that was sold there was a void. building the 1.8t lupo into her 1.0 lupo was the next step. she loves the car to bits. its plain, debadged, sits low on 15" black pro-race-1 wheels with tinted windows and centre exit exhaust. pictures courtesy of Daz
Digging an old thread up but i used R888's on the main road for a few miles yesterday. Wow they howl! It does sound like a wheel bearing gone but changes with the road surface.
agree they are noisey, suppose its the price you pay for lots of grip in the dry, but defo avoid standing water! had a few lairy moments even on motorway in straight line car wants to change lane ect
