In search of some pictures of your track cars with stickers / lettering / decals / numbers / ect... Looking to get some inpiration and ideas, as i maybe going down this route with my MK2, or another one. Any mk1's, mk2's & Mk3's welcome, but would prefer MK2's tbh. Just want to get an idea of how good it can look. Also where is the best place to buy these from? Cheers in advance Rich
There is a craft to this - it's easily overdone on a road-based car. Subtle small stickers on the rear section of the front wing, and other lower panel areas. Choice of sticker says everything. The scene uses lots of cool stickers, whilst component mfr stickers are on race cars .. it's nice if they have something to do with your car. We have a Club GTI screenstrip design which we will debut at Inters btw
Cheers for the reply Chris I might have to buy a screen strip at the stand on saturday. Will you be there running the stand? Would be good to say hello I was thinking along the lines of a few clubgti.com stickers. Seen them before on the wings of a few cgti MK2's, and wouldn't mind a few bigger mfr stickers. I cans see what you mean regarding over doing it though. How about numbers? For eg - on each door? Any pics of your Mk1 ?
Numbers on a non-competition car are a bit OTT, and the law hates them. White squares are ok, but risk overdoing it. The clubgti.com stickers will be available - that's what I run on the front wings of my Mk1, plus it runs its original VW Cup 'Volkswagen Racing' screenstrip as a mark of its genuine history. Literally we just have 2 Club GTI screenstrips, 2 variations on a design, and we can take orders on the weekend for postage out later. Crispy and Lou will be mainly looking after the stand as others including myself are busy with the voluntary activities we take on over the course of the weekend. I will be to-ing and fro-ing from the stand.
Hopefully will bump into you over the two days But not sure what you look like lol. Will have a look at both sunstrip designs - any clues? I see what you mean about the numbers. No need if its not competing, just like the look of them tbh. Just found a picture of your Ex VW -Cup MK1 - Very subtle and not over the top at all. I think the paintwork has alot to do with it and it adds alot of character to a track look Golf. Especially using two colours like yours.
Competition numbers and lots of stickers on a road car just make you look like a pretentious boy racer, tbh. Driving talent reduces for every sticker added.
Ive grown out of being a boy racer years ago tbh Mike I really want to build a track/road car, preferably a Mk2, and want to start getting into track days. A local CGTIer - L-O-M-A-X , has got a tracked MK2 16v. We've helped eachother out a few times with our MK2's, and after seeing his its made me want to go down this route even more. He attends alot of track days, as some of you may know, and i'd like to start doing the same tbh. Plus its something ive always wanted to do!! Need to look into it more...
He either looks like his avatar, or the chap on the left in purple, take your pick. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1221/4594632250_686b4105ca_b.jpg
Was hoping it was John "Hannibal" Smith under a different name and still alive lol Will hopefully not walk straight passed you now Chris (or John should i say lol)
Yep, back on topic... So can anyone just turn up to a track days organised by the forum, or do we have to list everyone before hand? Also any good places for VW Motorsport stcikers?
Book up in whichever way each event books up (they vary) and turn up! Cheaper member prices for Club events at Curborough of course You've really got to decide what suits the car. Have a nosey around Inters - you might be inspired. It would be easy to put on a load of meaningless spark plug, oil and tyre stickers, and not make a particularly personalised job of it.
Sounds good... I really want to start attending a few next year once i have a car built! I think the idea of the Pug 205 rallye is starting the splip away tbh. Would love one but i always find myself sticking to VW's, for obvious reasons Not going to use my current Mk2 though, so i'll be on the look out for another MK2, preferably in white, and 8v of course . So any good places to use for stickers?
