What tyres sizes are you lot using on track?
Im going to be using a set of raddo speedlines (15x6.5) on my mk2 so i was thinking of 19/50R15 but i seem to find more choice in 205/50. Anyone using these sizes any advantages/disadvantages??

    Thanks Tim.

That is the same wheels I use on my scirocco track car.
195/50 15 AO48 yokohamas are what I run and are a proper competition spec tyre. They heat up and give very good grip compared to performance road tyres so no need to go any wider than that. They will not last that long if used on the road though. (they are road legal)
You may find them part worn too as they are the control tyre for many a race series.
There will be other choices from different makers but it is worth having the right tyre for the job.
Check motorsport news in the classifieds as some deals often turn up there.

I run 195/50/15 Toyo R888s on my 6.5" Compos, really pleased with how they have performed, both on and off the track. Haven't tried any other of the track specific tyres out there but would definately recommend going for the R888s.

My son raced on 195/50/R15 Toyo R888's (classed as MSA List 1B) last season and was really pleased with them. Good in the wet when, in appalling conditions at Lydden, he was passing cars that had left him for dead in the dry!

A few months ago Blackcircle were advertising 888's at 80 or so, and that was fitted!! No longer offering them and Camskill were asking 100 + just for the tyre.

Now "downrating" (List 1A) to Bridgestone Turanza ER300 for next season, but unused so far. Also trying Toyo Proxes 4 (also List 1A). Got a good deal on a set of 4 new with wheels.

Pascal77UK - SEMSEC series (Saloons & Sports Car Championship), primarily at the Lydden track (Kent) with one race at Brands. Coming season should be 12 races in total. As a road going car (but restricted to List 1A tyres) it will now be eligible to race in the lowest class for 2010. That should put a lot more points on the board.

    It's a 1987 Mark II 1.8 GTi (newly fitted with Weber 45s).

Thanks for the tip on the Hankooks - I'll do some price research.

I've found Kumho V70A's to have a good choice of tyre sizes!

Had R888's 205/55 16's but at the front the tyre would rub my coilovers and on the rear they wouldn't fit under the arches lol. So came across the Kumho's read some good write ups on them and they come in tidy sizes :)

The width of the wheel. 6.5J means 6.5 inches and then 7J = 7 inches...... so half an inch wider :)
