Following on from my first track session thread...
The first thing I think I need to improve is my tyres I ran 195/45 on my 8" wide banded steels which i know isn't ideal on track.

I have 2 other sets of alloys that I can get tyres for but would like advice
    Both sets are et 35
One set 6.5" wide, the other 7" wide. Not sure which are lighter yet.
Was thinking 195/45 or 205/44 toyos. 195 are a bit cheaper.

Out of these wheels what would make the best set up?
It's a mk3 golf if that makes any odds.
    Thanks

195/50/15 was the tyre for vw cup cars
It's about balance  with these tyres you have side wall movement so you can have harder suspension
You have enough grip but not to much so when the car starts to go you can feel it and bring it back it's not on off grip[:x]
If you run slicks you're going to get more grip than you can use properly as a beginner
Once you've done a million track days like Nige you can move your goal posts but start at a steady pace and go from there[:D]

    Okay will get them weighed.

Probably just a set of T1R's. Only done one session so far and this is just to get away from banded steels and stretched tyres until I know its something I can do often and work getting some track specific tyres

In that case, I`d go with what you like the look of really. Get some 195 or 205`s .

Not being funny, but you won`t notice the difference. I run 205 and 195, depends on what I can get, and if you swapped them and I wasn`t looking, I wouldn`t notice lol

Good idea to get away from the stretched tyres on a trackday !!

Okay thanks Nige, will probably save some pennies and get the 195's and stick them on either set of wheels. Probably the 7's for a little extra width.

Yeah probably best to get away from heavy old 8" wide banded steels haha.
