carbs4 ever, you will still need the 16v ecu to run the sparks on your 16ver there are a few FAQs on vortex showing how to wire it in. If you get an early 16v pre 1990 loom then it'll all just plug in.

There is occasional reference to a new cross flow engine on the forum but it's the new 8V crossflow which although is widely fitted in the states I believe is only fitted to the beetle here.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

some mk4s and passats too, after they dropped the 1.8 20v NA engine cos of the lack of torque in the heavy mk4 type cars

    2.0 8v crossflow...

Torquey motor no doubt... with decent induction.

I know bill, its tempting isn't it. The major trouble is the cheap cost of 16v motors from breakers/scrappies thats makes the most sense.

If only people could import mk3 heads from the states for 100 a go and I might be tempted ;) .

It still is tempting even with the beetle head... but information is the key!!

I suppose the engine mounts would be same for complete beetle transplant? Maybe sit too high? considering big bubble bonnet on beetle?

Any way I'm gonna try and source a decent complete 16v thats driving instead of taking a chance with our Northern Ireland breaker blokes. Then I can work out the wiring etc!! This is all new to me!!

Will be needin you guys for advice ;)

    Just to recap!!!

I need to source say a 1989 16valve (this is simpler than a post 90?)

I assume the braking system and servo could be transplanted too?

My Mk1 driver fuel tank could be used with a suitable electric pump and return system with braided lines to the 40's?

Would the 2litre 16v from the MK3 be an option with 45 Webers?? Just askin! Obviously would need the loom from the MK3?

you can run the mk3 engine on the early spark ecu, to wire in the full mk3 management would be a job on yours

I WAS THINKING OF DOING THE SAME CONVERSION IN MY MK2, BUT CANT DECIDE ON THE 8 OR 16VALVES 8 WOULD BE DIFFERENT WITH A CROSS FLOW HEAD. WHERE DID YOU GET THE QUOTE FOR THE BEETLE ENGINE?
