what do 16vs come with................k-jet as standard so it's free,

I meant the fuelling system, not the 200bhp bit rather that the k-jet isn't as bad as a lot of people make out.

sorry for any offence I know that particular 200bhp was not free :p

Now sorry if the rest of this sounds arsey it's not meant to be [:D]

carbs cost plenty, and are ultimately a more primative type of fuelling. spend the money on a 2.0 bottom end or a ported head for better results. And get the k-jet sorted out by Stealth or 800 gallons who really know their stuff.

you might get some gains in parts of the powerband from carbs but i reckon you will have less power everywhere else assuming that the k-jet was set up properly in the 1st place. so don't just look for peak numbers have a look at the graph.

remember valvers had 139bhp as standard, proper tweaking of the k-jet = 150bhp show me some RR runs of carbs that give decent gains over that, then I might change my mind ;)

i thought that was wot u ment.

With my carbs ive got a much better torque curve.
    and it sounds nuts!!!

Im thinking about building a 2.0 16v running k-jet or going TB's on my 1.8 over next winter

For the amount of money you'd spend on buying the carbs, linkage, fuel pump, lines manifold extra bits of hosing you could get a gas flown head, 2.0 bottom end or set of cams...Oh and thats forgetting the silly amount of money, time and hassel you'd have to spend getting them set up properly, they're fast becoming a black art....

    Something to think about..

Slightly OT, but velly have you thought about making your carbs into throttle bodies ?

The only thing I hear people who run carbs say is yeah it sounds great. A VR6 sounds great but im not gonna put it in my mk1 golf because of this.
Fair enough if your building a show car and you want the bling and hradcoreness of carbs under the bonnet but otherwise im beginning to wonder if carbs are worth it.
Id like to see what somebody like barny gets if he were NOW to put twin carbs on with already pushing 200bhp on K jet. This isnt a diss im just in two minds as to whether carbs are worth it.

a fully mapped ecu would be the best obviously

Velly your 40s would make excellent t-bodies for a 2.0

800gallons has figured out a nifty and cheaper way for running throttle bodies and a fully mapped ecu

get over to www.designadubs.com i'm sure he can sort you out

and for t-bodies it's easier if you get an ABF block as it allready has a lot of the sensors that you'll need

ive got a set of stripped 45`s that are going to be converted shortly, you could run your t/b`s on a pug ecu&loom(cheaper option)nick wilsons old mk1 was around 210bhp on 45`s if not more and ran 13 sec 1/4`s :p

although yoshimura gained an extra 10bhp on carbs over FI on a tuned-to-the-hilt GSX-R1000. FI got as far as it could go, and these emulsion tube carbs went a bit further. There are aftermarket carb kits out for some of the more ridiculously powerful bikes as well...

    what goes around comes around.
