thinking about a twin webber conversion on 1990 8v (digi)
what sort of gains could i expect?
can you get a kit with a manifold wich comes over the top of the engine with the carb inlets facing forwards on the front?
how much is it all likely to cost and any places any1 can recomend to buy from?
    thanks

for a pair of carbs (+filters, linkage and manifold) your looking at the nice side of 300 (second hand) or the carbs brand new from webers (dcoe 40/45/50) are around 450 each from www.webcom.com

    :p

Flusted and mk286GTI - just out of interest, what problems did you
experience when you were running twin sidedrafts on an 8v counterflow
    engine?

as long as you heat wrap your manifold and make heatshield for under the carbs you wont have any heat problems.

To say you "probably won't gain anything" from carbs is just wrong. I
    know of a mk1 1800 8v running a genuine 210bhp on Weber 45s (high
compression, slight overbore, race cam, race head, etc). Try that with K-
Jet! On the right engine, with the right setup, they will work. It'll take time
to get the setup running at its best but they can definitely offer an
    advantage over injection setups.

:lol:I'd only fit x-flow if you could make it carry on using the original injection system.

but thats not what he asked, he asked whether fitting carbs will make difference, well on their own, probably not, only difference you'de see is abit more noise and maybe a touch more response and deffinitly less mpg

Seems to me you're just guessing. I'll happily admit I haven't fitted carbs
to a counterflow 8v (mine are on a crossflow 16v). However, I know of
people who have and I know the results they've got. OK, it's an extreme
example so it may not be useful in this case but I don't think your
complete dismissal of carbs is very useful either.

Maybe. Probably. Possibly. I don't know - I haven't done back to back
    tests.
