looking at about 700kg with around 200bhp. most of the wieght will be lost at the rear. could this make the car skittish if it's too light at the back end?
i was thinking of 205/50/15's for grip and economy.

    any suggestions?
the suspension will be reasonably harsh.

Width is less important than tyre type, a decent 175 would probably out perform a cheapo 195.

205's on the correct width rim with a decent quality tyre should be a good balance, with 200 bhp any tyres going to wheelspin, even slicks.

I seem to remember Ian Carvell used to run narrower rears than fronts on
    his mk1...

Its great for lift off oversteer ;) well it was when I ran 195/50/15 on 6.5j front & 185/60/14 on 6j rear on my Mk2 Valver, ultimately slower tho I found, but more fun :p

You'll be limited by the size of tyres you can get for the track, Suggest you check outthe Yoko & Toyo sizes available in the track tyres, that might make the decision for you.

Smaller wheels too, 16" on the front and 15" on the back.

They're not cheap, but you'll be hard pressed to complain about 195/50x15 Yokohama A048Rs [:D] Awesome, and road legal.

<Has a word with himself> [:|] "GVK take those Yoko's off and refit your road tyres "

was thinking of toyo proxies. rather not spend 120 a corner if i can help it. 185's may be a bit too small a footprint for 200bhp.

Graham Vanstone runs 195s with 200 (at the wheels)

I'd rather buy some used 15" Clio cup slicks for 60-70 a set than use road tyres on track.

    o.k. good.
we're talking about a road legal track car that will be driven to and from events and brought to life on the odd sunday and maybe thursday/friday evening visits to a friends.
the car is doing very well on a relatively small budget. i know that track tyres and wheels and a set of road ones would be ideal, but funds will not allow this in 2005.
    opinion?

personally i would get on www.rallyusedparts.com

have a look for something like some colway F2s - barny and speedo have run them for ages - can't seem to wear them out and they are definitely better than std road tyres (even good ones)

i just bought a set in 13" for 100 delivered - no road tyre is ever going to be worth using on the track - unless it is a road tyre in name only and would be a waste of money to use on the road (i explained that well!!!)
