I have just fitted my new Avo Coilovers to my Mk1, they came with specially ordered 350lb front springs and 400lb rears.
To get the car level i have had to put 1 rear spring platform 40mm higher than the other, and 1 front about 25mm higher than the other. I have got the springs the right way round.
[:s] Whats wrong? Spring rates wrongly marked?? [:x]

You have got the springs mixed up from front to back. Check that you have them as they should be but it sounds like you have not.

Why are the rear springs rated higher than the fronts?

Thats going to be interesting, light back end...lots of oversteer!

    surely that can't be right.
coilover springs are the same size but different rate they must be a higher spring rating at the front to deal with the weight of teh engine.

u sure they are the right way round, doesnt sound right

are the spring lengths the same ?? they come in diff lengths as well as poundages, the length typically changes in inch(25mm) increments

and running the rear stiffer than the front is not a problem either - trsut me mine are far stiffer than that !!

    Update.

The spring lengths are all 9" and i have measured the diameter of the coils, the 400lbs are 12mm and the 350lbs are 11mm, they also are wound to the same number of coils. So you would imagine they are marked correctly. I drove the car with them and it all seemed to drive pretty evenly. [:s]

But as I was doing Cadwell on Monday, i was still concerned that, so much difference between the platforms was wrong. So i swapped them for some 8" 250 fronts & 400 rears which i had in the shed, once on the car they were about even on the platforms. :) but too soft.[:^(]

Left those on for Cadwell, which is a monster circuit [:D] [:D]

I think the front top mounts are part of the problem, they were new, (GSF) put on Saturday with the coilovers but as soon as the car was dropped down on the 350 fronts the metal part of the top mount pushed right up through the rubber part,(more on 1 side than the other) the springs are obviously stronger than the top mounts. More money to spend on solid eccentric top mounts [:^(] [:^(]
Doesn't explain the difference in the rears thou. [:s]
I will give Avo a call today, see what they think.

    Hi Barny,

    Mine's a Mk1 so the G60 mounts won't fit [:^(]
Avo didn't have any ideas either, so i think i'll have another play about after i've got some better top mounts.

    SORTED! [:D] [:D] [:D]

Right with my shiny new alloy top mounts fitted, i put the Avo springs back on, the fronts are level to within 2 thread of each other now and the backs were dead level. [:D] Did a track day at Lydden yesterday and the suspension was spot on, very little roll and no bouncing over the bumps [:D]
I can only think that the top mounts caused all the probs, the fronts obviously and due to the stiffness of the body it must have also put the rears out. [:s]

    [:D] [:D]

Got some eccentric alloy top mounts with spherical bearings from Rally design for 50ea. :)
