I'm after a new headunit and would like one that I simply plug my USB stick into the front panel. I don't own or wish to own a iPod. I don't wish to drill holes for additional wires etc. Is there such a unit with front panel mounting? Would probably like it to play CD's also although not essential. Budget circa 150 I'd like a plain looking system as I'm not one for flashy lights etc. The Alpine IDA X200 for 127.23 delivered looks good but no CD player http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alp...-p-7112.html?cadid=nqalmq8rtbkt6fb7ddh8shi477 I don't think the USB port is on the front panel but on a wire which would require drilling for mounting purposes, I don't think this is much of an issue but would prefer front mount if possible. Also, would word documents etc. interfere with the performance? Thoughts please...
Good man!! I-pods are for girls and gheys there are LOADS of USB head units out there with CD also I use a JVC KD SH1000 which is USB, CD, SD (probably not for sale anymore) but don't rule JVC out cos they make decent units link to muchos USB HU's skip to about page 3/4 for 150 range http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/category_m-usb_c-889.htm
oh and other documents dont seem to bother the player it only loosk at the music files i've had spreadsheets, massive zip files & pdfs on my usb stick and it works fine
or saying that, is there a way to plug my USB stick into an Auxiliary In on my existing Alpine 9827R headunit? I don't really want JVC tbh
that link has loadsa different makes I was only sayin JVC as that is what is in my car you would need to buy a USB mp3 player they are pretty cheap
well you wouldn't be plugging in the usb.. you would use the headphone cable i'm not aware of any other method of connecting an mp3 player to an aux in
He was saying that you would need to get an MP3 player if you wanted to use the AUX In, since there`s no way to connect a USB stick via AUX In... Anyway using the AUX would negate the reason for you question in the first place. You could do worse than looking at the Sony CDX GT range. The new one has a USB port on the front of the unit, plays CD/MP3 discs. I`ve got an older version (BT range)that looks exactly the same except it has AUX instead of USB. It also streams songs from my phone via Bluetooth. The main reason I went for it was because of it`s plain looks. Doesn`t clash with the Mk2 interior at all, and I reckon it would be the same in a Mk1. From page 4 of Ben`s link...
Yay... what HU you got Wez? ----------------------------- The Alpine IDA X200 that Gareth mentioned is intended really for I-pod users there are much better options for USB mp3 users
I got myself a Kenwood USB player, works a treat for both MP3 CD players but I just have my USB memory stick plugged in the back, however I know that you'd rather have a front port. Oh and it sounds really impressive for the money too especially at 108 http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/kenwood-kdcw6641u-p-7055.html?cadid=ruec5dtfds89js3fsem7t2mr12
Lol - I was after the exact same thing - but with Bluetooth. This is pretty much unbeatable value - front USB + built in mic for bluetooth so no arsing around with installation http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_503993_langId_-1_categoryId_165696 *Alternatively you could buy my 1 mth old IDA-X300 + 6CDMP3 changer for 150+post
That`s the latest versio of the one I`ve got (mentioned above). Bluetooth handsfree and music streaming...
You can indeed - I bought a cheapy one from ebay for about 2-3 posted. Just a usb extension cable and really easy. Nob on the right can be a bit fidly but it fits well and looks nice. For a few more pennies you can get the version which has a range of backlights you can flick through. The sony headunit is cracking value for money, but for looks the kenwood was a bit tidier. Is this for the S40 T4?
The one on mine the right knob you twist to scroll through the mp3 list (i.e. album) then you can move the joystick left to go further down like an i-pod to browse your albums.
