vagcom socket

    hi,can anyone tell me where the vagcom socket is,my car is a 92 vr6 ive checked the glovebox and had a good look around but cant find it...cheers,carl

    You have to remove the ashtray using the little button under it and then slide the panel to the right.

    Just didnt want him trying to pry that bit of plastic off:lol:

    In a 92 model the diagnostic connector will be a 2x2 rather than the J1962 shown above.

    In an early mk.3, the diagnostic connectors are (or should be) behind the central blank insert in the central panel (in the picture above, the insert with the red l.e.d). There's not a detachable cover next to the ashtray. One connector provides 12v and ground, the other carries the actual diagnostic lines.

    Quite often, the connectors have come loose from their fixings, and wandered away from the opening. It's not too difficult to pull out the entire panel, which is held by six screws (two low down behind the ashtray, and four behind the heater trim panel, which can be prised off).
