Just lately the idle on my vr6 has goot really bad, feels really lumpy. Also in low revs and when putting me foot down the car will stutter. Any ideas
Sounds like it could be the old cam position sensor, quite a common problem on VR's. A fault check on VAG-COM will tell you for definite (it may come up as a "Hall Sensor" or "Impulse Sender" error, 'G40' IIRC). If VAG-COM shows no errors, then chances are its the MAF (airflow meter). This is all assuming you've already elliminated the obvious stuff like plugs, leads, coilpack etc. HTH, Robbo
hall sender didn't effect idling when i had total failure of that sensor on my vr6. lets start with the idle...if its an obd1 car (pre'96) you prob need to clean the ISV, and also the TB whilst you're there. if its a later, i have no idea. poor running could be the hall sender, but i'd say damaged leads or coilpack is more likely. lightly spray water over them at night and watch for sparks. if theres no sparks then next step will be a fault code check, then go from there. maybe worth pointing you in the direction of vr6 owners club as well Edited by: acf8181
I had a similar sounding problem with mine recently. Cleaned the throttle body out with carb cleaner and the problem hasn't returned, so I'd give that a try before forking out for anything else. Just whip the main intake off, open the throttle and spray...it'll run like crap for a minute or so but will be fine after that.
