Ive got a `94 Golf VR6 and am fed up with paying to get my local garage to service it as i`m sure i can do as good a job...

just a few questions for those of you who have done ths before :

Plugs - look easy enough with a long reach plug spanner??

Air Filter - looks simple to me, open the box and put new one in??

Oil Filter - i have an engine manual that shows an exploded view, looks like i buy the filter unit that goes inside the casing held on by a nut at the end?? how easy is this to do?

oil - what is the oil capacity of the engine?

fuel filter - no idea where this is, i can see fuel lines going to the injector rail, they come from the back of the engine, i cant see a filter unit?

anything else i should be checking on a 90k+ mile VR6, its had cam belt recently (10k ago), brakes appear to be ok, good depth on discs although the ABS light comes on some of the time!!

    Cheers

vr takes about 5.5 litres of oil.

think the fuel filter is under the car, just in front of the tank (drivers side).

had a cambelt changed!! thats surprising as they don't have one!!!

you also need a diagnostics check really, with vag-com.

A plug lead removal tool!!! Dont try and just pull them :(

The rest is easy but the nut on the oil filter is massive so make sure you have a BIG spanner

You can get a sh*t plastic one from vw, a good metal one from snap-on or make one from some 22mm copper tube

Ian, you should do a write up of your tool you made and submit it into the FAQ section.

And remeber to drain the Oil filter casing first by undoing the 6mm allen bolt, then undo and with draw the filter element.
Also only use VAG filters as halfords one's are SH*TE!

i meant the fan belt not the cam belt!!! :o

i was going to get all VAG where possible, its never worth going for halfords specials...

whats is the massive nut - " nut on the oil filter is massive " i thought it was just taking the plug out of the filter then unscrewing the filter casing with appropriate tool??

i`ve got the plug lead removal tool that came with the car which works to get the leads off... but i know to be careful!!

anyone else know anything anout the fuel filter??

    cheers
