For some reason the water isnt flowing through the radiator on the VR. It gets hot at the top hose but isnt flowing through to the bottom. Temps rise to halfway on the gauge on the clocks, and then stabilize. Fans not kicking in yet either. Is this a thermostat problem? or something else? cheers
if an engine is left to stand for a long time (6months or more) can the coolant thermostat seize up? If so, can it be un-seized...soaking in warm water maybe?
ive just replaced the thermo on my vr. If the thermo sticks then the rad will be cold, However - the water temp sender will still start the fans as these are in the main thermo housing. If the fans dont start then its not hot enough. You need to take it for a good drive - and see if the fans come on. If not - then you might have a dodgy sender - or a blockage somewhere else? or a faulty water pump?
ok thanks for that. Was thinking maybe the water pump. Can't really take it for a drive yet as it has no windows, insurance, tax, mot, seats, throttle cable and is sat on 1.6 driver suspension
oh...... You might just have to let it idle for a while.... Id start looking for a blockage - or like you said the pump. Not sure how easy it is to replace the water pump on a vr.... good luck either way - and the vr in a mk2 must be mental. Cheers
