im thinking about possible mods for my car, going to be getting a bit of money over the winter and was thinking about going down the 1.8t conversion, i would be getting a specialist to do it as i think its a bit beyond me at the moment and i dont have a good enough place to work on it. designa dubs list a 1.8t conversion for 4500 i think, the vr6 is 2500, then they also do a 350bhp turbo conversion for 3500, basically as there are around the same price at the end of the day it seems, which would be best? if i would go for a vr6 it would be from a corrado bored to 3.0, or is the 1.8t go for the 225bhp s3. also whats the difference figures wise to the 12v and 24v vr? the 1.8t is a more difficult conversion correct? i also want to stay on 15s, will g60 brakes be up to it? or even tarox 6 pots on a 280mm disc. or am i going to have to go up to 16's to get good braking? cheers Edited by: Cleggstar
best thing is to ring Matt at designadubs as he has run all the engines you are considering and will have 1st hand experience of the differences. One thing to consider is insurance for 20vt engined mk2s seems to be reasonable, but a vr6T may well be ridiculous check with HIC first

youd want the diff for either engine really. btw I got a quote for insurance on a 350bhp vr6t and it was very reasonable - 900 from HIC. But thats a classic policy and I'm 26.
i pay a grand for my valver 3rd party fire theft [:^(] i would say go vr6t but after seeing how long its taking jeff that would put me off
a friend of mine is currently fitting a home brewed VR6T. can't wait to see what it is like on the road. as to the question it depends on how silly you ultimately want to go. the VR6T has the more potential for higher power imo. and a bit more weight over the front wheels for 1/4 miles. if you're building it to for a bit of track action i would say that the 1.8T would give you better handling. slightly off topic, but i was well chuffed with my renewal quote. after a bit of shopping round it was 890 fully comp. (i'm 23)
OK OK vr6 turbo parts arent easy to find, but rest assured it could be done A LOT quicker than mine. In fact I think glaciers can be moved faster than mine with my current money situation
1.8T for sure. It's lighter so you won't get understeer as easy as with the VR and it's can be calmed down with a adjustable boost control for when your just pottering about. It's load easier to get more BHP than the VR uless you want huge gains.
ok cool, sounds like its the 1.8t to go for, i know the engine should be around the 1500 mark? anyone on here who enjoys dropping in 1.8t's
