no they expect muppet garages to feck things up, i.e. the op has this problem cos some fool crossthreaded the bolt then wadged it in with an airgun or something

    Not just seized then?

If that's the case, surely drilling out is the only way to go?

looking at one of the posts way back he said the bolt isnt in straight. if welding a nut on doesnt help then yeah drilling would work. but then you would still be left with damaged threads, you could fix this using the vw method above though. main thing with drilling is it will be a major pain in the rear, far easier to just chisel off the captive nut and weld on another.

    Ooooooops![:$]

If it is, I am sorry jonny. But, it is a .pdf file, which I have downloaded from somewhere, and .jpged in MS Paint. No way I would know how to screenshot, and then make the screenshot into a .pdf![:s]

Thanks for the screenshots Daved

This must have been the case with the previous owner.
I’d never removed the wishbones before, but noticed the car was clunking and not handling well, then noticed the bolt had sheared off.
Ive never had this problem on any of my previous MK2’s, so someone along the way has definitely done something wrong.

Definitely looks out of shape R.J.
Will remove the captive nut and place a nut inside.

Thanks for the picture  Thats exactly the kind of repair im going for

Dare i update this thread lol.

    Its out [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Well me and brother bit the bullet today and decided to cut the floor away.

Borrowed my dads generator and his angle grinder, and rigged up a light.

My brother (BOB 79 on here ) cut a neat section into the floor -

Now that we had access to the captive nut, we heated it and gave it a wack with a hammer and chissel.

It soon came out of place [:D]

Im so glad we finally got it out. [:D]

Now i can get the ball rolling on this project and get it ready for Inters hopefully.

Cheers for all the suggestions throughout the thread everyone, and the banter (or should i say pi5s taking lol)

    I know [:$]

Didn't have much on today so thought we might aswell get it out the way.

Plus all the tools were available and not being used by my Dad, so we could just get on with it.

Not much to do now though. Get the subby back on, and the BBS's. Then MOT / Tax and insurance.

Not alot of interest in it. Only selling it because I can't be bothered to get the other car I was going to put it in. Picking up a 2.0 bottom end for the 8v next weekend though.
