just to add to this, I've just pulled a lighter set out of a 2000 TDI head
makes me just a bit confused why their in there, old aftermarket lifter mid 60g , and this lighter one 48's grams :o

I have no history of this head other that I know it's not seen alot of miles on the road, and even though the part numbers match there are slight markings different between them

I think I know which part number they might be - but not certain

    cam follower
    exhaust /

Anyone got one on the bench to weigh? Might be the same as a 20v NA item - Danster??

Can you confirm the part number and weight Brookster?

Is this what you have fitted?

Good thread, presume your are all using 8K on a regular basis?

    Only kidding....

Seriously. It was an ache in the ball to use cossy buckets and machine lash caps down to size from blanks, but the end result was absolutely worthwhile. The engine top end is so so quiet, even with full race cams.
Hydraulics for a race spec engine are now history for me.

There is an old thread somewhere with me whittling on during the build process

    Just my tuppenth worth

    Holy thread Revival Batman!

Some audi V8 engines have solid tappets and lash caps on half of the engine - early S8 engines I think. Can't remember if it's inlet or exhaust. I tried to get a friendly INA dealer to find me some but the trail went cold.

The Mk1 is just fine. I'll see what my neighbour who's a Ford Specialist can get me the cossy bits for.

Has anybody got the INA part number?

What kind of price are they, I was quoted €30 a piece for genuine ones today.

Think cossy is hydraulic as std. Not sure of the weight. The real lightweight solid ones are sold on ebay and by reyland etc. Again off thread, sorry

It's all lifters. My neighbours build the odd race engine, so I'll see what they can do on a mate's rate. If it's anything worth sharing for the benefit of other folks I'll report back and see if there's enough interest in a group buy.

    Acccording to VAGCAT

Solid lifter + range of shims.

Ceri, didn't you pull one of these heads to bits? Care to weigh the lifter if you have one?

I wonder if those lash caps would work with the cossy lifters, and if they're in the right thickness range - might save Jon machining them from blanks? There are Alfa lifters from the 1960s and 70s as well, which might be adaptable for the same purpose. I have a few spare Alfa heads I could pull apart and investigate. I'm guessing the lash cap just needs to match the valve size, as the top side of the shim is normally flat (?), and be the right thickness for the lifter design.

    Lashcaps only have 2 dimensions;
    Thickness
Rebate diameter (ie to suit valve stem dia)

I ended up ordering them anyway, I'll see what they are like, I wonder are they just INA items?
