Welding cast iron? Calling metalurgists

Well I did wonder. The carriers definitley have a cast appearance but I wasn't aware of cast steel?

If they were made of cast iron they wouldn`t last too long.

 

I hadn't seen the Vauxhall caliper article no.
I might have to try to track down some 280 bits off a Vauxhall then although I'm getting tempted again to modify my VW carriers if they are steel
