    ok[8(]
so today i thought id get the cage in the mk2, welded the front feet mounts on and had a few little fires like you do... then welding the rear and i didnt notice a fire start underneath the car....prob got 45 secs headstart on me...
i tried to put it out with my welding gloves on but it was too big already, 1 ft square!!:o
had to run up to my flat and get a bucket of water to put it out, it burnt me through the gloves and up the arm... just got back from the doctors...
knew i should have had the fire extinguisher on me. a lesson well learnt[:$]
nearly lost the car, another two minutes and it would have been a fireball...
the girlfriend is not going to be happy!

Terrible injuries fella, I am genuinely really sad to see that. I hope your injuries heal quickly.

Full respect for posting this though, It is unfortunately a good warning for others who do DIY welding without taking the time to putting some safety measures and personal protection into place. I hope that others take notice and protect themselves from injury and fire.

    :(

That finger looks really sore - I bet it hurts!

Strange how we all decide to get an extinguisher after the fire. Same with my wiring fire in the dashboard, so all three Dubs now have one either in the car or in the boot.

    Aye. I second that.

Personally if I am welding (badly:lol: ) on a car in particular, I make sure there is at least one other person about on Fire duty with a bucket of water/fire extinguisher in the vicinity.

I'd rather leave a welding job to later than run the risk of ruining everything and/or burning myself.

    hello Seb,

sorry to hear about the fire, your neighbours stick any more snotty letters on the screen threatening to have you towed since the blaze?

I wont take the pi.ss though as I just set the black one on fire myself [:$]
