just like any other golf engine, If they had a decent service history, chances it's good!

Body doesn't rust any quicker than any thing else, you have that better "sports" postion

Body/trim parts harder to find in scrappy

They have Mk1 Golf underpinnings so spare parts and upgrades are plentiful.

If you're looking at a carb model be prepared to replace the original Pierburg at some point with a Weber.

Have a VERY good look at the filler neck as they invariably rust and can cause running problems.

Body parts are harder to find at scrappys but if you do have a ding just buy another one off ebay!

Only thing to be wary of is that the steering is relatively heavy and not for everyone so test driving is essential.

My recollection of scirocco ownership is all good from a handling/
performance point of view, but I would caution that the controls are all
rather 'manly'. Steering is often heavy, even compared to other
unassisted cars of the period, the gearchange is wand like and heavy, and
the clutch is heavy too, with the usual mk1 bulkhead cracking prob.

Great low slung driving position though

15 years of owning Sciroccos and that's the best description I've ever seen
