Can anyone recomend best cams for tuned 9a on 45mm itb-s? I have piper 264-s regrinds at the mo, are these good enough? Thanks

Never heard anything good about Pipers- consider a change to 268/276 Schricks if you want the best ;) ..

The ITBs should only be fitted to an engine with the full works IMO...flowed head/4 branch/cams etc etc...

Might be worth investing time & effort fitting ARP rod bolts and /or lightening & balancing the bottom end too. This is a definite if 7K+ revs are going to be regularly used...

IMO if the engine is to be run on ITBs then it will have outgrown standard KR or ABF cams for sure.....although others may have differing views on this..

Remember an ITB conversion will entail the use of aftermarket management too, which can disguise the slight low down loss associated with hotter cams.. ;)

Cat cams are good - every bit as good as Schrick - they do steel billet and forged ones, forged ones are cheaper, steel billet are better

    Contact Badger Bill for info

Ditch the re-grinds and as Rob said speak to Bill.
Bill will give you a choice depending on what you use the car for.
I recommend Shrick 268/276 as a good all round set-up but you may wish to go more radical if you want just a high peak power figure ;) ;)

I thought of split duration shricks my self, engine has had a full rebuild by ex vw motorsport mechanic:

    Bores honed,
    New rings,
    New bearings,
    Polished crank,
    Uprated clutch,
    Slightly lightned flywheel,
    Whole lot balanced,
    Ported/polished, skimed head,
    New valve guides,
    New tappets,
    etc,etc...

Engine covered just over 3k miles before rado was written off [:^(]
Was very strong and torquie but did seem to lack top end power, maybe just needed miles.
Cheers for advice boys, will speake to Bill.
Will i need vernier pullys to set cam timing or not?
    Thanks

YES!! allows for tweaking to get it just right.. ;)

Its just a single vernier pulley that replaces the camshaft top pulley..

Chrismc...sounds like you have experience with this kind of set up, judging by your sig you have! What spec is your engine and what power/torque have you got? What else you recomend?

Nah it aint Chris who has the experience
His car was mine and the work was done mainly by me with some help from a few lads from the Devon region.
The bottom end is a new standard 9a from VW with no mods.
The head is a flowed jobbie,
    Shrick cams as mentioned above,
Magnex 4-branch manifold modified to fit a supersprint race system,
Full badger-5 throttle body kit with DTA management,
Check out the recent thread at the Stealth rolling road day for power/torque figures. (Approx 200bhp and 160ish lb/ft).
I predict someone will be along in a minute to say how sh1t it is [:s]

Oh it was your car matt, i'v met you last year at BVF and had a chat with you about your golf, such a sorted car iy was! Cant belive you sold it [:s] . That is exactly what i am aiming to have as a finished product, still undecided which car to go put the engine in, got choice of mk2 or a rado.
Schricks and vernier it is than [:D] . Not sure if i will bother with a 4-2-1 manifold tho?

Dont they loose torque on valvers due to lack of damping? Just something i was told, also they dont sound to good, anyone have dyno proof how much power exactly they give?
