Before you respond, please understand that here in Australia we did not recieve any 16v's and we don't have many k-jet golfs in the country [:^(] . I want to ditch the ke-jet on my pl( german import) and put some carbs on. I am keen for peoples opinions on which size carbs would be best for 1.8 16v. Initially i am probaby going to leave the motor standard, with custom headers and exhuast, but i want a p&p and to put some cams in over the next year. Which carbs would run ok now and still have a little potential for future mods? Edited by: Danny boy
We got the ABF in the Seat and the 9a in the Passat remember I've heard lots of ppl say 45's are too big on the 1.8...
mines a kr 1800, im not part of the 2.0 crew yet h8sv8s [:^(] 45's should be fine and if you do want to go 2.0 later on like h8sv8s is hinting at ,then the carbs would be fine on that too. Edited by: riley
Thanks guys , Riley or anyone else, where did you get your manifold or kit from, and if you don't mind me asking how much was it. Also anyone keen to sell a kr inlet cam, pm me if you are.
bore size of the carb is largely irrelevent, you should be basing your choice around whatever carb will house the correct venturi size for your engine.
Well put, but the 1.8 16v is on the larger side of the twin 40's useful range and 45's allow some overlap of choke sizes with the 40's and with room leftover for a 2L bottom end.
Dan, You can use the same manifold as is on my car for the throttle bodies (mine are DCOE style, not Direct to Head like the Jenvey ones - so basically webers with injectors using a weber manifold). I got the manifold from Demon Tweeks and it needed a bit of modding on some of the bolt holes - nothing major, though. Let me know if you want more info and I'll dig up the price and take some detailed pics of it
P.S. When I finally get around to getting some new cams, I'll sell you my ABF inlet cam, which will give a similar result to the KR one...
Thanks for your input guys, i bought a pair of 45DCOE's saturday . What i do need now is some pictures or dimensions of a manifold to suit as my brother is willing to machine me one out of a solid alum. block. In Australia golfs aren't exactly part of mainstream car culture. The total absence of the golf mk1 gti, mk2 16v, g60, corrado and scirroco [:^(] from the Australian market hasn't exactly helped. So i really need some pictures and dimensions otherwise i am going to have to start guessing what to do. Any input would be much appreciated.
Is anyone on here actually running a 2.0 on carbs? Maybe sicko2k? Talk of theoretical "correct" venturi sizes is all well and good but it's only by trial and error that you'll really find out what's right for the engine. Danny boy, I recently bought a manifold for 25 in a private sale. If you're brother's willing to make you one you've got all the measurements you need - just measure up the carbs and the head. Custom job should be much better than the cheap and nasty ones on the market if you do it well.
im looking to build a 2.0 this year but im tempted by a 16v Turbo which i know i could pick up cheap Edited by: velly_16v_cab
