What wasted spark coil for ABF on standalone / SEM / DTA / Megasquirt / Emerald etc?

Having read various threads on this I see that a Peugeot / Citroen or even Renault one can be used with the oem leads.

Most of the threads are a few years old now so I was wondering if anyone has any up-to-date part numbers and/or links?

These particular coils also have 4 pins - the 4th sometimes marked as "cap" - what to do with this?

Lastly, a search brought up this one - which looks like a mk4 jobbie? Any reason this wouldn't work?

This is the coil pack I'm running on mine

Pin 4 cap is for a suppressor, emerald said to me that this is not usually used in aftermarket setups. There was already one wired to my loom so I used it. ( my loom and Ecu were 2nd hand)

    Sean,

the threads I contributed to, with regard to non amplified coil pack options for vehicles with SEMs are still applicable today.

The coil pack you shared in the link is from 1.6 and 2.0 EA113 8v engines and is also used in the 1.2 TSI motor.
You can use it as well.
The guys from Boba motoring also use them in their KMS ECU cars.

    Your call really on that.

    Which standalone?

The above coils will all work, you just need to make sure you have the correct settings for you chosen ECU.

Thanks Eddie, I just happen to have a new one of those coils - bought for my NBC - but as I'm now going to set that car on fire it will be spare.

    Er...yours. You have a short memory lol - I'll let you off as you're a busy man - it's the S40.

Don't use amplified coil packs with the S40, it doesn't have the aluminium case to use as a heat sink.
    Use the "TVR Cerbera" coil.

You can remove the amplifier on the ones pictured.
However for the "Sigma" coil pack as found on a Focus/Fiesta or Reno/Peugeot Sagem item, the dwell times for running and cranking are well known and I can say from experience, last a very long time.

Thanks guys, that makes the choice simpler. Just one last question about the 4th pin then - Suppressor, earth or leave it?

You only need 3. The suppressor bridges across earth and the 4th pin.

    Just to update this, I've bought a slightly different coil - from a Ford Fiesta mk5/Mondeo Mk3 - Bosch 0 221 503 487.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ignition-Coil-BOSCH-0-221-503-487-Ford-/332106333570

I bought it because JMR has made a rather snazzy dizzy block-off plate that doubles as a mount for this particular coil and the coil itself is quite compact. The only downside is the wiring connector is a Ford-specific item.

We have that connector in stock if you need one.
