As i'm just starting to think about phoning round the insurance companies i need to know a rough value to be telling them as by the time i want the insurance to start several changes will have occured since i last insured it. First up it's a 1990 3dr Mk 2 golf GTI 16v in Tornado red with c. 130k on the clock. Will be fresh out of the bodyshop in a few weeks hopefully after a complete respray (proper job with brand new wings, bonnet & bumpers. Glass out, doors, bonnet, boot off etc) It's got the standard green tint glass all round, brand new bumpers, wheel arches, sideskirts trim etc. Single front grill, smoked headlamps, new fog lights, clear indicators and side repeaters. Debadged and dewipered on the rear. Estoril wheels, standard looking at the moment, but soon to be diamond cut with gloss black inserts. Dropped on FK Highsport coilovers. TSR stainless steel 4 branch manifold with heat wrap, remainder of exhaust system Jetex stainless steel twin exit. K&N panel filter, other than that engine standard. Interior has mint rainbow seats, fronts half leather trimmed a year or so ago, rear half leather treatment still awaiting funds but hopefully done to match one day Richbrook R1 leather steering wheel Electric windows Stereo wise no big install just a JVC head unit, inifinity dash speakers, infinity 6x9s. That's about all i can think of now, i'll add more as i remember it Opinions please peeps Cheers Luke
I'll get some pics up when it's finished, its only half primered at the mo tho lol. I was hoping worth more than that tbh, i thought the average standard fairly decent condition valver went for 1500 ish. I'm not looking to sell, just to get an agreed reasonable value with the insurance.
Whatever you tell the insurance company they won't pay out more than current market value (which will be peanuts) for a mk2 Golf. Your best bet is to get an agreed valuation with a specialist like HIC, they ask for photos to be sent to them so they can see exactly what they are agreeing to. I won't try and give you my opinion on a value as it seems to vary so much these days but if you do the above that's about your best bet.
Yeah that's what i wanted to do..get an agreed value, otherwise as you say i might as well just tell them it's worth 500. And i don't want to ever be in the situation where some prat in his saxo writes me off and i lose out all the effort and money i've spent. Fingers crossed that would never happen obviously but that's one of the things you're insuring against of course. Going to start phoning around insurance companies this week anyway so i'll see what they say..am hoping some of the more specialist ones like HIC i'll be able to hold a sensible conversation with and they'll actually know what i'm talking about so they may be able to offer advice on a value i suppose.
