Hi all i'm want to boost my bhp to about 220 for now :) but don't know the best way to do it.
I have a mk4 gti tdi 150. Been told I can have it remapped and a chip but not a clue where to get these done for the best job etc or if they are right and how much.oh and will it f**k my engine up at all. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please.
    Thanks

Where do you chaps get your "targets" from?
How do you distinguish a "220" BHP vehicle from a "180" BHP one or even a 50bhp one. Are we just rattling out numbers because they look better on paper, pub etc?
I better go buy myself a chassis rolls and fettle the thing to read "right".

Seen a 140 tdi recently that was apparently mapped to 230bhp according to the owner.

start with the simple things like engine breathing, ie inlet and exhaust system. so have a good free flow air filter, (you could go induction kit but you will need a proper cold air feed and heat sheild otherwise your going backwords sucking hot air)

then look at a re-map, a custom one would be best, but these cost a bit more.

after that your into the relms of bigger turbos, front mount intercoolers etc etc etc

a guy i used to konw on a carhifi board with a fabia got to the limit of his 130pd injectors at about 220bhp i think (this was a long time ago though), and he did end up with a larger turbo

final score was 260bhp, from a diesel, front wheel drive lol

^^^ Matt was that the red one that Jabba sport built?

I like the way these numbers are randomly selected.

'I have a 1.1 and want 3 trillion BHP how do i get there??' its good to have a goal but to start chasing a figure is a strange way to start modifying an engine.

What can you afford??? is the 1st question

Devonutopia is still kicking about on Briskoda...a silver Fabia...but I seem to think it was a PD100 start point, not a vRS.
    I'm sure he's up to 260 BHP, as you say...with around 370 lb-ft torque.
    Allard tuned.

That would certainly be very quick...

    Not a chance...
650 will get you a decent re-map (or tuning box giving less power than a good re-map)...and around 190-195 BHP with 280 ish lb-ft.
Any more torque (you can easily get 330-340 lb-ft) and you'll kill the clutch or dual mass flywheel.
If you upgrade the clutch and flywheel, you'll have more torque available but that alone will take more than your budget.

Some form of inlet & filter upgrade and a good re-map will be the best route, I'd say...with the torque capped to protect your clutch.
Have you tried driving a 1.9 TDI with more than 280 lb-ft?
It's struggles for grip...so you'll struggle to use the additional anyway...but to go higher on torque, you'd need to change the clutch and flywheel...that would let you crank the torque up.
Then you are into hybrid turbos to get more power...
    Better FMICs...
    Bigger injectors...

The first step is cheap and easy...190 ish BHP and 280 lb-ft.

After that...it starts to spiral upwards.
