I bought some Porsche wheels at the weekend and I'm going to have a go at polishing them myself. :o

Has anyone done this before? What tools, etc do I need, apart from plenty of patience. [:s]

Also I think in the Golf Mag there was a "how to" feature on, does anyone know when this was?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated [:*:]

    Thanks Jimmy.

Where is the best place to get this stuff from??? There these things that Hellfrauds stock or is a proper auto paint/bodywork supplier better??

    Cheers ;)

Jimmy, did you do it all by hand, or did you use a Dremmel thingy or owt?

I've never tried anything like this before and I can't see how I can get such a mirror finish by hand ???

I'm going to trawl through my old Golf mags tonight and get some pics and stuff, may even plagiarise(SP?) the text and post it up here (if the Mods don't mind - you know copyright n stuff)

get them sand blasted to remove the paint then start off with 600 wet & dry, move down to 800 then 1200 then 1500, then autosol, then a very fine buffing compound. Takes feckin ages.

    What wheels have you got?

Pic of a set I did for my Mk3

don't sand balst anything you want to polish. the sand can get embedded in the soft alloy and you can't polsih it out.

May not have been sand then, was some kind of blasting to remove the paint, I managed to get a mirror finish whatever it was, as you can see from the photo. Take some advice on the blasting robbsoll

mops and cutting compounds are the way ahead, you get a much deeper and brighter shine with less effort.
