I am rebuilding my 2.016v 9a engine out of my Corrado. The cylinder wear is out of tollerance, with a piston to bore gap of .007" on the largest part, where the bores are oval. So, I need a rebore and new pistons. The re-bore is easy, however oversize pistons are proving difficult to track down. I am trying to get standard pistons, not forged, the company who are going to re-bore it cannot get them, I tried J-tech Automotive, who apparently could get them, but they can't. I want to build a good solid bottom end, which will last as well as a new VAG one. I plan on keeping the car for years, so want it to be right. If I cannot get std oversized pistons, I can either find a low millage bottom end, or get forged pistons. From what I understand I will need to run greater piston to bore clearance for forged pistons, which will cause more noise/piston slap. What should I do? Will the engine last as long with Forged pistons?
