Simple really, I currently have a 9a fitted to my Mk1 at the moment, with an old Ashley 4 branch manifold sending the gases on its merry way...it is unfortunatly slightly dead so i'm considering swapping in an ABF...

It seems that common problem is for the Ashleys not to fit properly due to the taller block. Whereabout exactly does it catch?

As the block is taller, Is it the bottom flange catching on the tunnel?

    Cheers, Dave

Sorry I wasn't very clear...Currently I have a 9A with an Ashley manifold, I am considering swapping it for an ABF, as my 9A needs work and ABFs seem a bit more plentiful.

It is a massive difference? I've read various threads and suggested difference is 25mm, is that right?

Could I have bottom of the Ashley bent or chopped and angled or something?

As much as i'd like a nice shiney new manifold (Supersprint/Raceland etc) , I can't justify forking out for one at the moment.

ABF block is 16mm taller than the 9A/6A/KR, it's been a LONG time since I worked on a 16v MK1 with an Ashley but IIRC the flange may touch slightly, you can either grind some of the flange away and/or put a slight impression into the underside of the tunnel (i.e. hit it with a BFH).

Personally I'd offer it up first, see what the deal is an go from there

    Cheers

Cool cheers, not as bad as I thought then. More than happy to use some 'persuation' to get it to fit.

I have the Supersprint in mine and had to weld in a 50mm section for clearance - my rear engine mount is raised up for other reasons, which doesn't help, but only about 12mm...

The US-made Eurosport manifold clears easily, though, as I had one of these previously.

Nice - looks very, erm, 'similar' to the Supersprint one.

Unfortunately they want another $400 to ship it, on top of the $400 it costs!

Is the reason the Eurosport rocco 16c manifold clears just because it doesn't have the flange? It would have been designed for the std KR (or whatever code it is over there) lump, no? Looks nice though!

    The Eurosport one, for reference:

My intention wasn't to reopen the 16V conversion options question again...just see what I need to do to butcher my Ashley to fit ;). Another option suggested to me is to space the rear mount slightly down.

    Thanks for your help!
