You can also use PEC rods as well.

I listed PEC rods. I wonder why they're 485 though!

I get they're a good brand, but the design looks identical to some others available for much less?

you get what you pay for with rods both Nige and Gurds took a chance with cheap rods both failed one after the other after the rod bolts let go
Arp bolts are about 80 a set alone so you are going to trust rods that cost 29 quid each you wouldn't get a standard one that cheap ;)

I guess I'll be going all out and buying the PEC ones then!

What other parts would you recommend for an engine rebuild?

I've looked but keep drawing a blank.

Like I keep searching for information on which mounts I need for a 1.8t conversion, I don't see definite answers

No, but that`s what Gurds and I THOUGHT we were running when we fitted them. [:s]

I actually believe that if they were Genuine ARP bolts, they`d have still been in the car and running fine. I measured the rods I removed and non of them had any measureable distortion with the micrometers I had available at work. That`s not to say they wouldn`t fail over time though.

I wouldn`t risk them to be honest which is why I went for IE rifle drilled

I have seen all sorts of products over the years and also witness the rise of all these ebay cheap H sectioned rods. Most of these products are forged in China based on an old Carillo blank, however the quality control to prepare the rod can vary and that is reflected in the price.

I have also seen some failures in both Gurdip and Nige's ABF 827 engines, which are a bit different in construction to the 1.8 turbo 06A engine. Both these members know very well the choice and risks taken, using components that have no history of durability, hence the change to proven IE products for their track cars, which fastener company ARP makes bespoke ARP2000 bolts for with the option for the bolts to be made of ARP L19 steel.

The 1.8T 06A engine is different to the ABF motor in terms of components such as rods. Being more readily modified than a NASP to boost application, means there is a record of durability for aftermarket components that work and do not work.
You have two types of 06A motor. Early and high output engines with 20mm small end 027 rods like a 9A or KR engine and cheaper post 2000 model year sub 180ps engines with 19mm small tapered ends.
I believe the APP motor carries the same rods as an AGU or BAM code.

Rods that have been fitted to these are Scat - which comes with ARP 2000 bolts as std, IE w/Rifle drilled or w/o + ARP 2000. Performance Engine Components, have been used in customers cars and I have been fortunate to speak to at Autosport. PEC does away with Rifle drilling and uses patented cutouts on their small ends for oiling, they also come with bespoke ARP fasteners in either 2000, 625 or L19 steel.
My experience with the 1.8T at ~ 330bhp and 320lbft is IEs or PEC are very durable at 20000 miles of road use with just ARP 2000 bolts, pulled to the correct torque.

    Hope this helps.

I guess I will be investing in the PEC Rods then! Thank you for that detailed response, it's a very big help indeed!

So my APP would have the 19mm ends?

Wow they're even more expensive! I think I will go down the PEC route, seeing as I know of that brand.

Pauter and Pankl are the daddy's in the business.

APP, carries the same rods as the AGU, AEB or BAM.
